About the position

The Assistant Professor of Animation position at Temple University is a full-time, non-tenure track role within the Department of Film and Media Arts. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a variety of animation courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, focusing on a wide range of animation techniques and theories. The role emphasizes mentoring students and fostering their unique artistic voices while maintaining an active creative practice.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Animation, ranging from introductory to advanced levels.
  • Ground students in a wide range of animation techniques and theory.
  • Advise and mentor students on their BFA and MFA thesis projects.
  • Maintain a visible profile of creative practice in the field of Animation.
  • Engage in service to the department, university, and professional community.

Requirements

  • MFA in Animation or Film Production with a strong Animation portfolio.
  • Documented ability to explore formally and culturally diverse perspectives.
  • Solid teaching experience in Animation or related fields.
  • Expert level software knowledge of at least four of the following: Adobe Suite, Blender, Maya, Unreal Engine, ToonBoom, Unity, Dragonframe, or ProTools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in character development, narrative storytelling, episodic streaming, short-form, feature film, and experimental methods.
  • Ability to teach multiple animation approaches such as 2D, 3D, and Stop-Motion.
