About the position

The Assistant Professor of Art/Illustration at Pennsylvania Western University is a full-time, tenure-track position aimed at enhancing the university's respected Visual Arts programs, particularly the Illustration concentration. The role involves teaching various levels of Illustration courses, engaging in research, and contributing to service within the department. The successful candidate will be expected to foster a supportive learning environment and maintain strong relationships with students and faculty, while also demonstrating a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Teach Illustration I & II, Special Topics in Illustration, and Advanced Illustration I & II courses.
• Engage in research and service activities as part of tenure track expectations.
• Provide excellent student advising and support.
• Collaborate across disciplines within the Visual and Performing Arts Department.
• Demonstrate effective teaching and fulfill professional responsibilities in accordance with tenure and promotion policies.

Requirements

• MFA in Illustration or a related arts field.
• Minimum of 3 years of college-level teaching experience (5 years preferred).
• Professional illustration experience with a high-quality portfolio.
• Strong understanding of design principles and color theory.
• Proficiency in a wide range of analog and digital media.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of 2D and 3D animation programs.
