About the position

The Assistant Professor of Biodiversity Conservation at Iowa State University is a tenure-eligible faculty position focused on teaching, research, and service within the Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management (NREM) and the Global Resource Systems (GRS) program. The role emphasizes developing an externally funded research program in biodiversity conservation, particularly in fisheries or wildlife, while also engaging in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring. The position requires strong communication skills and a commitment to service within the academic community.

Responsibilities

• Develop an externally funded research program focused on fisheries or wildlife.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research.
• Coordinate the Vertebrate Biology labs for an undergraduate course in NREM.
• Lead an elective course in NREM on Natural Resource Policy.
• Develop a graduate course in biodiversity conservation that meets departmental needs.
• Provide expertise to two GRS courses.
• Contribute to departmental, institutional, and professional service through committees and student-focused programs.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or equivalent in biodiversity conservation, conservation biology, natural resource management, fisheries or wildlife ecology, or a closely related field by the hire date.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience conducting applied research that informs conservation, management, and/or policy decisions of fisheries or wildlife.
• Experience supervising/mentoring staff and/or graduate and undergraduate students in conducting research.
• Experience teaching at the college level.
• Experience writing grants and obtaining external funding support for research activities.
• Peer-reviewed publication record in biodiversity conservation, fisheries or wildlife ecology, or closely related fields.
• Post-doctoral experience.
