The Department of Chemistry and Forensic Science at Savannah State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty appointment as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry, beginning in Fall 2025. The successful candidate will teach 12 semester hours of chemistry courses. Faculty responsibilities include delivering online courses, contributing to program and curriculum development, providing academic mentoring, participating in scholarly activities, promoting student success, and engaging in institutional service. The candidate is also expected to establish an active research program that secures external funding. Areas of interest include biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences, chemical biology, with a focus on undergraduate student involvement. Faculty may be asked to perform tasks not specifically described in this job posting. The department offers a Chemistry program that includes an ACS-certified Bachelor of Science and a Pre-Med chemistry track. It has established strong collaborative relationships with academic institutions, industry, and federal government agencies. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments, including real-time PCR, Bio-Rad and Invitrogen imaging systems, Zeiss confocal microscope, thermocyclers, BioTek microplate readers, CD, HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, UV-Vis, NMR, FT-IR, Raman, Gel Permeation Chromatography, Thermogravimetric analyzer, and more. Additionally, a virtual reality technology center is utilized for teaching chemistry and forensic science courses. The position will remain open until filled.
