About the position

The University of Texas Permian Basin is seeking an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice and Social Sciences to join its Department of Social Sciences. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a variety of courses in criminal justice, engaging in research, providing academic advising, and participating in departmental service. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the growth of the department and potentially take on leadership roles such as Coordinator of the Undergraduate CCJS program.

Responsibilities

• Teach a mix of online and face-to-face courses in criminal justice and related fields.
• Pursue an active research agenda, aiming to publish at least three articles in peer-reviewed journals by the end of the fifth year.
• Provide academic advising and support to students in need of academic improvement.
• Engage in service to the university, college, and department.
• Participate in the Department's expansion and perform other reasonable assignments as needed.

Requirements

• Doctorate in criminal justice, criminology, or a related field.
• Experience in online and/or face-to-face university teaching in criminal justice.
• At least three years of experience working in criminal justice, law enforcement, courts, corrections, or related areas.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in teaching sociology and/or political science.
• Willingness to relocate to the Permian Basin area.
• One or more paper presentations at an academic conference in the past five years.
• First or second author in one or more articles in peer-reviewed journals over the past five years.
• Experience securing grants for applied research or curriculum development.
