About the position

The Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity at California State University, San Marcos, is a tenure-track position aimed at candidates with expertise in cybersecurity and privacy. The role emphasizes quality education, research, and service contributions within the department, college, and university. The successful candidate will implement evidence-based teaching methods, develop and teach courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and establish an active research program in cybersecurity.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach cybersecurity courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels in various modalities, including online, hybrid, and in-person.
  • Implement inclusive and evidence-based teaching and learning approaches to ensure the academic success of a diverse population of students.
  • Seek external funding to support research and education in Cybersecurity and related areas.
  • Advise undergraduate and graduate (MS) student projects and theses.
  • Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community.

Requirements

  • An earned doctorate in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a closely related field (ABD applicants accepted; PhD confirmation required by hire date).
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence in the cybersecurity field.
  • Demonstrated commitment to scholarly research and publication in cybersecurity.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service contributions to the department, college, university, and community.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively in a diverse campus community.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated teaching experience in undergraduate and graduate cybersecurity courses.
  • Demonstrated research experience and publication in cybersecurity and/or privacy.
  • Expertise that expands the education and research opportunities currently offered by the department.
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence with diverse groups in teaching, research, and/or service.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting students with minoritized identities or using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom.
