About the position

The University of Tennessee at Knoxville is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Digital/New Media Studies and Transmedial Storytelling, starting August 1, 2025. This position emphasizes teaching and research in media studies, particularly in transmedial storytelling, and aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration within the College of Arts and Sciences. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate programs, develop new courses, and engage in significant research and publication activities.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Digital/New Media Studies and Transmedial Storytelling.
  • Develop new cross-disciplinary courses within the English Department.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams across media and design departments.
  • Engage in significant research and publication activities.
  • Mentor undergraduate students and contribute to their academic development.
  • Promote access and inclusion in teaching and research activities.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in English, Media Studies, or a related field, in hand or expected by August 1, 2025.
  • Demonstrated record of teaching excellence in media studies.
  • Active research agenda with publications and scholarship in progress.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in digital narrative studies, animation and film, or social media studies.
  • Background in critical fields such as decolonial studies or digital rhetorics.
  • Record of creative activity in film and media industries.
