About the position

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking an Assistant Professor of English specializing in Creative Writing (Fiction) for a tenure-track position beginning in August 2025. This role involves teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Creative Writing, primarily focusing on fiction, while also potentially including poetry. The successful candidate will actively participate in the development of a thriving Creative Writing program and engage in community outreach, fostering collaboration with students and faculty from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Creative Writing, primarily fiction and potentially poetry.
  • Develop and participate in a thriving Creative Writing program.
  • Engage in community outreach related to Creative Writing.
  • Conduct scholarly research and creative activities to expand knowledge in the field.
  • Participate in service to the university, public, and profession.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
  • MFA or Ph.D. in Creative Writing with a specialization in fiction.
  • Evidence of success as a published writer, including at least one book of fiction published or under contract with a nationally recognized press.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued creative activity.
  • Evidence of successful university teaching.

Nice-to-haves

  • Secondary expertise in poetry is highly desirable.
