About the position

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking an Assistant Professor of English specializing in Creative Writing (Fiction) for a tenure-track position beginning in August 2025. Responsibilities

  • Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Creative Writing, primarily fiction and potentially poetry.
  • Engage in curriculum and instructional development.
  • Advise and consult with students, directing their research as needed.
  • Conduct scholarly research and creative activities to expand knowledge in the field.
  • Participate in service to the university, public, and profession.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
  • MFA or Ph.D. in Creative Writing with a specialization in fiction.
  • Evidence of success as a published writer, including at least one book of fiction published or under contract with a nationally recognized press.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued creative activity.
  • Evidence of successful university teaching.

Nice-to-haves

  • Secondary expertise in poetry is highly desirable.
