About the position

The Department of Communication & Film at the University of Memphis is seeking to fill a tenure-track assistant professor position in film and video production, set to commence in August 2025. This role is designed for candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to working with a diverse student population and can contribute meaningfully to the university's diversity and intercultural academic goals. The successful candidate will possess a terminal degree and have substantial experience in the field of film and video production, along with a proven record of ongoing creative achievement. Candidates must showcase hands-on experience throughout the entire production process, from writing to post-production. The department is particularly interested in applicants who have taught intermediate and advanced courses in narrative writing, producing, and directing, as well as those with experience in teaching basic production courses. The University of Memphis, with an enrollment of approximately 20,000 students, is recognized as a leading metropolitan research university that leverages the strengths and challenges of its urban environment. The Department of Communication & Film is one of six departments within the College of Communication and Fine Arts, comprising 20 full-time faculty members, around 45 graduate students, and over 200 undergraduate majors. The department offers concentrations in Film and Video production and Communication Studies at the undergraduate and MA levels, and provides PhD programs in Rhetoric and Media Studies and Applied Communication. Requirements
