About the position

The Assistant Professor of Global Ethics & Technology at Old Dominion University is a tenure-track position aimed at enhancing interdisciplinary studies within the Department of Philosophy & Religious Studies. The role focuses on teaching and researching contemporary issues in global ethics and technology, particularly in relation to artificial intelligence (AI). The successful candidate will contribute to the department's commitment to diversity and inclusive pedagogy while engaging with ethical traditions beyond Western frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Teach two general education classes and one specialized class in their area of specialization per semester.
  • Develop and maintain a research agenda in global ethics and technology.
  • Publish research in well-respected, peer-reviewed journals and other media.
  • Engage in undergraduate education and promote inclusive teaching practices.
  • Participate in departmental and university service activities.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Philosophy, Religious Studies, or a related discipline by July 25, 2024.
  • Compelling evidence of successful teaching in philosophy.
  • A developing research agenda in global ethics and technology.
  • An active record of publishing in relevant fields.
