About the position

The Assistant Professor of History position at Bucknell University is a tenure-track role focused on the history of Europe and the Mediterranean World, beginning in August 2025. Responsibilities

• Teach courses about Europe and the Mediterranean before 1700.
• Develop a robust and imaginative research agenda.
• Contribute to departmental life and the humanities landscape at Bucknell.
• Engage in ongoing departmental conversations about race, ethnic and religious identities, gender, sexuality, slavery, social justice, empire, colonialism, migration, and global connections.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in history by August 20, 2025.
• Demonstrated potential as a teacher and scholar.
• Research and teaching expertise covering the period from 700 CE to 1700 CE.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in teaching courses related to the Mediterranean and European history.
• Research interests in topics such as the transformation of Christianity and Islam, maritime technology, or the scientific revolution.
