About the position

The Department of Radio/Television/Film is searching for a full-time faculty member whose research and teaching is in the area of BIPOC film/media history and theory. The successful applicant will hold the position of Assistant Professor of Instruction in Screen Cultures and will be responsible for teaching introductory lectures and upper-level seminars in film, television, digital media, and/or sound media. We welcome applicants exploring race and media within national, transnational, and/or global contexts. Additional desirable areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, queer or transgender media, media industries, and new media. We are especially interested in candidates with interdisciplinary interests who can interact with programs across our department such as sound arts, documentary media, film and video production, and screenwriting. Teaching experience and a Ph.D. in film and media or a related field is expected. Employment term: A 12-month appointment beginning September 1, 2022, renewable on an annual basis.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching six courses per year on film, television, and/or digital media.
  • Service such as sitting on department committees, student mentorship, and attending faculty meetings.
  • Innovative research is expected for promotion to the levels of Associate and Full Professor of Instruction.

Requirements

  • PhD in media studies or related area expected by July 2022.
  • Teaching experience is preferred.
