About the position

The Assistant Professor of Kinesiology position at Saginaw Valley State University is a full-time, exempt faculty role beginning in Fall 2025. This is a 9-month appointment with the possibility of teaching during the Spring and Summer sessions. The primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate Kinesiology courses, advising students, conducting collaborative and independent research, and engaging in service activities. The teaching load may encompass theoretical, practicum, and laboratory classes that range from introductory to upper-division undergraduate courses within the degree programs of Exercise Science, Health Education, Physical Education K-12, and Rehabilitative Medicine. A significant emphasis is placed on preparing future K-12 Physical Education and Health Educators.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Kinesiology or related field with evidence of scholarly activity (admission into a doctoral program will be considered)

Nice-to-haves

  • Teaching experience in an academic setting, particularly with Health Education and Physical Education to prepare K-12 Educators
  • Involvement with professional organizations within Kinesiology, particularly with the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE)
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate students
  • Demonstrated experience in Program Assessment, Curriculum Development, and alignment with State and National standards, particularly in Health and Physical Education
  • Advanced credentials, particularly American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) certification, National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS), and Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)
