About the position

The Department of Literary Arts at Brown University is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with a focus on poetry, set to commence on July 1st, 2025. This role is designed for candidates who possess a strong background in poetry, demonstrated through a robust publication record that includes at least one published book of poetry. The ideal candidate will have an MFA or an equivalent degree and will exhibit excellence and innovation in teaching poetry at both undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition to teaching poetry, the successful candidate will be responsible for conducting elective seminars and workshops, as well as literature courses. They will also direct undergraduate and graduate theses, provide academic advising to students, and contribute to the creative and intellectual life of the department through both individual and collaborative initiatives. The department is particularly interested in candidates who have expertise in hybrid genres, international literature, translation, literary theory, film/video, and digital arts. Furthermore, candidates whose work addresses issues of gender, race, and ethnicity, especially those that intersect with underrepresented perspectives and communities, are highly encouraged to apply. The position offers a unique opportunity to engage with a diverse student body and to foster an inclusive learning environment. Candidates are expected to articulate their teaching philosophy and approach to diversity in their application materials, which will include a letter of application, a current CV, a statement of teaching philosophy, a writing sample, and a list of references.
