About the position

The Mechanical and Industrial Engineering department seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate engineering courses and labs, engaging in professional development activities, and providing services to the department and the university. We are seeking an individual to develop undergraduate curriculum in Mechatronics, robotic integration, and Smart Manufacturing. Candidates must be able to teach a basic instrumentation lab and automatic controls. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position with a 9-month academic appointment. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Universities of Wisconsin System has a nationally top ranked retirement plan and a comprehensive benefits package. Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate courses in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Participating in curriculum development, academic assessment, and professional development.
  • Engaging in undergraduate research and scholarly activities.
  • Providing university/community service.
  • Serving as academic advisors.
  • Working with colleagues to improve the diversity of the student body.
  • Teaching graduate level courses as part of the online MS Engineering program.

Requirements

  • PhD in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a closely related field, earned by June 2025.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related fields.
  • Desire and ability to teach a variety of mechanical and general engineering courses.
  • Willingness to develop courses in Smart Manufacturing and to teach Measurements and Instrumentation Lab and Automatic Controls.
  • Ability to utilize pedagogies that are proven to increase students' engagement and retention.
  • Desire to promote inclusion through inclusive pedagogy and other activities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Record of professional development, or willingness to develop in areas related to teaching, research, or scholarly work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to teach Engineering Modeling & Design and Senior Design.
