About the position

The University of Oklahoma is seeking a dedicated full-time Assistant Professor of Music and Assistant Director of Athletic Bands. This position is a ranked renewable term role within the School of Music, focusing on teaching, administration, and creative planning for the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band and other ensembles. The ideal candidate will contribute to the vibrant band program and engage with the academic community to enhance the educational experience for students.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the creative planning process for the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band.
  • Teach courses in music education and/or conducting as assigned.
  • Lead and coordinate the Sound of the Sooners Basketball Bands.
  • Conduct a Campus Band.
  • Engage with regional secondary school educators.
  • Maintain an active conducting/creative activity presence.
  • Serve on committees as deemed appropriate by the School of Music.
  • Contribute to School, College, and University service.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in music.
  • Record of successful teaching at the secondary and/or university levels with an emphasis on marching band administration.
  • Demonstrated skills in drill design and music arranging.

Nice-to-haves

  • ABD or earned doctorate preferred.
  • Skills in developing a strong visual program.
  • Ability to cultivate a collaborative atmosphere in the band program.
  • Experience in building relationships with other departments within the College and the University.
