About the position
The University of Montana Western is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Political Philosophy to join the Department of History, Philosophy, and Social Sciences. The position, starting August 1, 2025, requires a commitment to integrating popular culture media into courses and involves serving as the Assistant Director of Interdisciplinary Studies. The successful candidate will engage in teaching, advising, scholarly activities, and participate in campus committees.
Responsibilities
- Teach introductory and upper-level courses in political philosophy, political ethics, and government.
- Integrate popular culture media into course content.
- Serve as Assistant Director of Interdisciplinary Studies, managing the major and its minors.
- Advise students and assist with student recruitment.
- Participate in faculty meetings and campus committees.
- Maintain scholarly productivity in the area of specialty.
Requirements
- Doctorate in political philosophy from a recognized program.
- Demonstrated excellence in postsecondary teaching.
- Ability to teach introductory courses in philosophy, political ethics, and political philosophy.
- Ability to teach introductory courses in government.
- Ability to teach upper-level courses in law, including American Constitutional Law, Comparative Legal Systems, and/or International Law.
Nice-to-haves
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching the subjects listed (highly preferred).
- Ability to teach Classics courses (highly preferred).
- Ability to teach courses in other areas within the Division of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (18 graduate credits in an outside area, highly preferred).
- Experience in online course delivery.
