About the position

The Department of Mass Communication at Sam Houston State University is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual for the position of Assistant Professor of Practice in Broadcast Journalism. This role is designed for candidates who possess hands-on experience in producing newscasts for both television and online media platforms. The successful applicant will be expected to create engaging news content tailored for social and mobile platforms, demonstrating expertise in broadcast interviewing and on-camera presentation techniques. The ideal candidate will have a robust professional background in broadcast journalism or production, complemented by a proven track record of teaching undergraduate courses in higher education. In this full-time, non-tenure track position, the selected candidate will be responsible for teaching four courses per semester. These courses will cover a range of topics, including television news production, studio production, broadcast performance, and the integration of broadcast journalism within digital video, audio, and streaming platforms. Additionally, the chosen candidate will play a pivotal role in coordinating operations for SHSU's cable station, Channel 7, and will contribute to various departmental and university-wide projects, enhancing the educational experience for students. This position is security-sensitive and subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215, which allows the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Responsibilities
