About the position

The Assistant Professor of Practice position at Oregon State University focuses on providing leadership in the development and implementation of pest management product registration programs for Oregon's specialty crops. The role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to educate and inform agricultural professionals about effective pest management solutions while conducting research to optimize production and minimize environmental impact.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in developing and implementing programs for the registration of pest management products for specialty crops.
  • Develop outreach programs to educate horticultural and commodity groups about research requirements and processes for registering pest management solutions.
  • Collaborate with extension specialists, field faculty, university researchers, and commodity groups to identify effective pest-mitigating products and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies.
  • Work with the National and Regional Interregional Research Project # 4 (IR-4), the Oregon Department of Agriculture, and product manufacturers to expedite product registration.

Requirements

  • M.S. or terminal degree in horticulture, crop science, entomology, plant pathology, weed science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of work experience in applied entomology, plant pathology, weed science, and/or integrated pest management systems.
  • Demonstrated capacity for designing, conducting, and reporting on field research, including operating equipment and applying fertilizers and pesticides.
  • Strong scientific writing and technical presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team, and communicate effectively with colleagues, stakeholders, and government agencies.
  • Must obtain an Oregon Pesticide Applicator's Consultant License within three months of employment and maintain it throughout employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve constituents from diverse backgrounds, particularly members of minoritized communities.
