About the position

The Assistant Professor of Social Work at California State University, Monterey Bay is a tenured/tenure-track faculty position focused on teaching Master of Social Work courses. The role emphasizes developing innovative curricula and engaging in community outreach, particularly in diverse and underserved populations. The position is dedicated to fostering student success through experiential learning and a commitment to inclusive excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Master of Social Work courses with a focus on student-centered pedagogy.
  • Develop innovative curriculum including flipped classroom and outcomes-based approaches.
  • Contribute to the growth of the college, department, and program.
  • Address diversity issues relevant to a Hispanic Serving Institution and the local community.
  • Teach 12 credits per semester, including local travel for field placement outreach.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited doctoral program by the time of appointment.
  • Evidence of an applied research agenda and early stages of a publication record.
  • Ability to mentor ethnically diverse students, particularly Hispanics/Latinos.
  • Experience teaching a wide range of graduate social work courses and engaging in field placements.
  • Experience working effectively in an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

Nice-to-haves

  • License or license eligible with experience at the LCSW practice level.
  • Knowledge of school systems, homelessness, or substance abuse.
  • Experience teaching computer-assisted and/or online content.
  • Interest and ability in community engagement and participatory research.
  • Track record of external funding and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrated interest in vulnerable groups, including Hispanic populations.
  • Interest in engaging with underserved communities in schools and community settings.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in professional or academic areas.
