About The Position

The Department of Writing, Languages, and Literatures at California State University, East Bay (CSUEB) is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Composition and Rhetoric. This position is designed for a teacher/scholar/administrator/activist who is committed to the transformative power of writing and is prepared to engage with a diverse student body. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses within the Writing, Languages, and Literatures majors, as well as in composition and other general education areas. This role includes coordinating the current composition program and creatively directing sustainable writing pedagogies and curriculum. The department is focused on reinvigorating and reimagining its composition program, providing an opportunity for the successful candidate to innovate and implement culturally relevant methods in their coursework. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research agenda, coordinate professional development for composition faculty, and support university initiatives aimed at increasing first-year retention rates and addressing equity gaps for historically underserved students. The ideal candidate will have experience and expertise in areas such as race and ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and ability status, and will be prepared to develop and teach writing courses that address interdisciplinary themes of racial/ethnic equity and inclusion, social justice, and environmental sustainability. The department values candidates with a strong grounding in praxis-centered, interdisciplinary, and intersectional anti-racist pedagogies that are humanizing, anti-colonial, and culturally sustaining. Teaching assignments may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or Online Campus, and faculty members are expected to perform their duties within the state of California. Faculty responsibilities also include advising students, assisting with administrative and committee work, and participating in campus-wide committees. The anticipated salary for this position ranges from $79,250 to $82,150, depending on educational preparation and experience, with the date of appointment set for the Fall Semester of 2025.
