About the position

The University of Massachusetts Boston's College of Education and Human Development is seeking a tenure-track assistant professor in the Curriculum and Instruction department, starting September 1, 2025. The ideal candidate will have expertise in race, class, and politics in public education, focusing on how these factors influence curriculum and educational outcomes for urban children from pre-k to 12. The role emphasizes collaborative, equity-minded research and teaching, contributing to the department's mission of social justice and community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses across the Curriculum and Instruction department.
  • Conducting research relevant to the field of public education.
  • Advising undergraduate and graduate students and potentially serving on dissertation committees.
  • Contributing service to university, college, departmental, and program committees, as well as to professional associations and communities.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate in education or a related field (awarded prior to 9/1/2025).
  • Established publication record or significant promise in research.
  • Demonstrated capacity for conducting research and attracting external funding.
  • Teaching experience or potential to teach at the university level.
  • Experience teaching or working in education or development contexts from birth to 12 level, preferably in diverse settings.
  • Knowledge of and experience in basic qualitative and quantitative analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Expertise in community engaged scholarship leading to community-focused curricula for understanding antiracist practices in PK-12 schools.
  • Experience with critically conscious, equity-minded, and asset-based approaches to advancing equity and racial justice in public education.
