About the position

The College of Education and Technology at Eastern New Mexico University is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Assistant Professor in Reading/Literacy Education. This role involves a 12-hour teaching load per semester, which includes undergraduate and graduate courses delivered in various formats. The position also requires participation in programmatic assessment, student advising, scholarly activities, and service to the university and the profession. The appointment is residential, necessitating a physical presence on campus.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate/graduate courses in various formats, including face-to-face, lecture capture, and online video, focusing on PK-12 literacy development.
  • Coordinate curriculum and delivery of developmental reading courses for underprepared freshmen.
  • Develop and revise course content to meet accrediting bodies' expectations.
  • Ensure student success on required licensure exams and portfolios as part of a faculty team.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with agencies for field placements and collaborate with the Teacher Education Office director.
  • Analyze and synthesize data for program planning with faculty.
  • Advise and assist students professionally and collegially.
  • Attend departmental and university faculty meetings and external meetings as required.
  • Engage in scholarly activities relevant to the field.
  • Provide service to the profession and university.

Requirements

  • An earned doctorate in elementary reading/literacy or a closely related field (ABD considered).
  • A minimum of three years of K-12 teaching experience.
  • Prior experience in developing and teaching online courses using various platforms is preferred.
  • Prior experience in teaching in a multidisciplinary classroom is preferred.
  • Expertise in early and elementary literacy development and/or developmental reading approaches.
