About the position

The School of Media Arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Animation and Game Development. This position involves teaching a range of courses in animation and game development, contributing to a multidisciplinary curriculum, and engaging in creative research. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop new courses and support student projects while participating in departmental and university service.

Responsibilities

  • Teach introductory, intermediate, and advanced level courses in animation and game development.
  • Support student projects and provide guidance.
  • Participate in service to departmental, college, and university-wide committees.
  • Serve on graduate committees.
  • Continue an active creative-research agenda.
  • Develop new courses and curricula at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Requirements

  • MFA or PhD required at the time of appointment.
  • Proven record of exhibition/creative research in animation and game development.
  • Previous experience teaching as instructor of record at the college/university level preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Expertise in contemporary animation and game development principles and practices.
  • Ability to teach Animation and/or Game History and Theory courses.
  • Research interests in game design and development, game engines, programming, procedural animation, installation, physical computing, performance, virtual reality, augmented reality, and other emerging technologies.
