About the position

The Assistant Professor position in Soil Conservation at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls is a full-time, tenure-track role focused on undergraduate teaching in the Crop and Soil Science program. The faculty member will develop engaging courses that emphasize the significance of soils in ecosystem services and sustainable agricultural practices. The role includes a standard teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester and opportunities for scholarly achievement and summer employment through various funding sources.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses such as Introductory Soil Science and Soil and Water Conservation, adapting the course array as needed.
  • Lead the development and design of the Introduction to Soil Science curriculum, integrating evidence-based teaching strategies and active learning techniques.
  • Modify existing courses and develop new ones to enhance the soil science curriculum and prepare students for professional careers.
  • Mentor and advise undergraduate students in their academic and research pursuits.
  • Establish partnerships with industry to facilitate internships and ensure curriculum relevance.
  • Engage in scholarly activities, including developing a research program and mentoring undergraduate research projects.
  • Participate in co-curricular activities, such as coaching the collegiate soil judging team and supervising internships.
  • Contribute to service activities at the department, college, and university levels.

Requirements

  • Strong background in soil science and related fields.
  • Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the undergraduate level.

  • Record of scholarly achievement, including mentoring undergraduate research.
