About the position

The Assistant Professor of Special Education at Georgia Southern University is a full-time, tenure-track position focused on teaching, research, and service within the College of Education. Responsibilities

• Teach various special education courses, including those in areas of specialization.
• Develop and maintain an active research agenda.

• Mentor students and contribute to curriculum design and development.

Requirements

• Earned terminal degree (PhD or EdD) in Special Education or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Special Education by August 1, 2025.
• Minimum of three years of full-time special education teaching experience in U.S. public school settings teaching students in grades P-12.
• Ability and willingness to teach both online and face-to-face courses.
• Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience supervising pre-service teacher candidates and/or practicum students in field placements.
• Experience teaching face-to-face and online education courses at the university level.
• Experience developing online education courses at the university level.
• Evidence of research and expertise in effective reading instruction.
