About the position

The Assistant Program Coordinator for the Ho'omāka'ika'i summer program at Kamehameha Schools plays a crucial role in supporting the educational and operational aspects of the program, which serves rising 6th graders. This position involves providing leadership, coordinating curriculum delivery, and ensuring a safe and engaging environment for participants. The role requires strong organizational skills, knowledge of Hawaiian culture, and the ability to manage staff and program activities effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the operational coordinator for the program, ensuring continuity through all activities.
  • Maintain order and a comfortable environment for participants.
  • Operationalize and implement program curriculum, assisting in its development.
  • Oversee program check-in and check-out processes, ensuring student accountability.
  • Coordinate and communicate the program evaluation plan.
  • Assist in the orientation training and evaluation of program staff.
  • Close the program, ensuring all equipment and supplies are accounted for and stored properly.
  • Act as a point of contact for parents and staff regarding daily activities.
  • Monitor, coach, and counsel staff and students as necessary.
  • Provide feedback for performance evaluations of staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a directly related field.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to deal with conflict involving staff, students, and parents.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Hawaiian culture and history specific to the program island.
  • Good human relations and communication skills.
  • Experience in group dynamics, organizational techniques, and team building.
  • Ability to supervise students during field trips involving strenuous physical activity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Hawaiian Studies, or a related field.
  • Driver's license.
  • Certified in first aid and water safety.
  • Prior experience with student boarding programs.
  • Knowledge of Hawaiian Studies curriculum specific to the program island.
  • Knowledge of Kamehameha Schools operations and programs.
