About the position

The Assistant Program Coordinator for Hoomakaikai at Kamehameha Schools is responsible for operational coordination of a summer program designed for rising 6th graders, focusing on Hawaiian culture. This part-time, temporary position requires strong leadership skills and familiarity with the program, ensuring effective delivery and evaluation of educational activities while maintaining a supportive environment for participants.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the operational coordinator for the program.
  • Provide educational leadership and guidance on instructional methods to program staff.
  • Coordinate and communicate the program evaluation plan.
  • Provide continuous feedback on program components to ensure effective delivery.
  • Assist in the development of curriculum and coordinate delivery of lessons.
  • Oversee program check-in and check-out processes to ensure student accountability.
  • Assist in the orientation training and evaluation of program staff.
  • Ensure all equipment and supplies are accounted for and stored properly at program closeout.
  • Act as a point of contact for parents and staff regarding daily activities.
  • Monitor, coach, and counsel staff and students as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a directly related field.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Hawaiian culture and history specific to the program island.
  • Good human relations and communication skills.
  • Experience in group dynamics and team building.
  • Ability to supervise students during physical activities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Hawaiian Studies, or related field.
  • Driver's license.
  • Certified in first aid and water safety.
  • Prior experience with student boarding programs.
  • Knowledge of Hawaiian Studies curriculum specific to the program island.
