About the position

The Assistant Program Purchasing Manager (APPM) at General Motors is responsible for managing GPSC deliverables and facilitating collaboration between GPSC and Program teams. This role involves leading the strategic development and execution of purchasing strategies to achieve program profitability targets, while ensuring that programs are delivered on time, within budget, and with high quality. The APPM will navigate complex situations requiring cross-functional leadership and creative problem-solving, and will represent Program Purchasing in all program-related meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Manage GPSC deliverables and facilitate collaborative activities between GPSC and Program teams.
  • Provide GPSC direction to keep the program on-time, within budget, and with quality.
  • Lead the strategic development and execution of purchasing strategies for pre-launch programs.
  • Achieve program profitability/EBIT targets on vehicle architecture.
  • Communicate volume changes, content, and footprint changes effectively.
  • Work with GM Customs to ensure USMCA Compliance.
  • Support various sourcing activities and commodity strategies throughout the GDVP.
  • Conduct Mid-Point PSRs and PSR Approvals.
  • Review financial and operational metrics within PET/Purchasing forums.
  • Support New Technology adoption and coordinate GPSC - PQRR deliverables & Program Gate Reviews for leadership.
  • Support Launch Excellence and represent Program Purchasing in program-related meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant post-graduate work experience in purchasing, supply chain, program/product management, logistics, or product development.
  • Previous experience in Direct Purchasing or related field required.
  • Strong business acumen and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to represent Program Purchasing in all program-related meetings.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and foster strong relationships across teams.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and GM systems (PIM, GDiMPs, SAP, ECM, EMERGE, etc.).
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related advanced degree.
  • Program Purchasing or Program Management experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with SMT commodity structure and supply base strategy.
  • In-depth understanding of GPSC Purchasing processes.
  • Familiarity with GVDP, program, component, & sourcing timelines.
