About the position

Kiewit Nuclear Solutions is seeking an Assistant Project Engineer to join their Engineering and Operations Team, focusing on carbon-free technologies such as Small Modular Reactors. This role requires practical engineering skills, the ability to work independently, and strong leadership capabilities. The Assistant Project Engineer will manage both administrative and technical aspects of project construction, serve as a key communication link between the project manager and the team, and mentor junior staff to prepare them for project management roles.

Responsibilities

  • Perform integrated engineering processes to fulfill project requirements and achieve target dates.
  • Author and redesign specifications, analyses, and drawings in compliance with engineering principles and applicable standards.
  • Prepare and redesign concept drawings for equipment using input from various technical disciplines.
  • Recognize, define, and resolve problems within the assigned area.
  • Develop a complete understanding of contract plans and specifications for the assigned work.
  • Examine field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost-saving measures; take corrective actions as needed.
  • Inspect subordinates' work for compliance with contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies, and take corrective action as needed.
  • Develop and maintain the project master schedule using appropriate techniques and scheduling software with input from other project management personnel.
  • Manage document control; receive and log new issue drawings and other contract documents; maintain document control log.
  • Ensure compliance with strict quality assurance standards and on-time delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited, four-year university.
  • 3-5+ years' work experience in construction or engineering.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ASME Codes is desired.
  • Excellent attention to detail and capability for producing error-free documents.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of engineering design practices and principles (e.g., interference checks, tolerance stack-ups, fits, GD&T).
  • Experience with using industry codes to develop equipment design.
  • Experience working with engineers and fabricators to develop designs and drawings.
  • Experience in the preparation of equipment sizing calculations, P&ID, PFD, and General Arrangement drawings for skid-mounted or permanent equipment packages.
