The Assistant Project Engineer will play a key role in the Site/Civil Department, assisting in the design of commercial, residential, mixed-use, and industrial developments. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, where the individual will be engaged in all aspects of projects, including design and project management functions. The role requires preparing and updating various engineering documents such as reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates, and design plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D and associated software packages. The Assistant Project Engineer will also assess soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data to inform project planning and design. Familiarity with local, state, and federal permitting regulations is essential, and the position may require fieldwork as necessary, with a work schedule from Monday through Friday, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and update various engineering documents such as reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates, and design plans for projects using AutoCAD Civil 3D and associated software packages.
  • Use reports, maps, drawings, engineering plans, tests, and aerial photographs to assess soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and topographical and geologic data and their impact on the planning and design of projects.
  • Familiarity with current local, state (New Jersey and New York), and Federal Permitting regulations.
  • Willingness to work in the field as necessary; position requires work Monday through Friday with occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
  • FE/EIT certification required; PE desired
  • 4-8 years of prior relevant professional experience in site/civil design, including site planning, grading, stormwater management, and erosion control measures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities
  • Reliable transportation to access job sites with a valid driver's license in good standing
  • Demonstrated ability to follow direction and work in a collaborative team environment
