About the position

The Assistant Project Engineer will support the Department of Transportation's mission to ensure safe and accessible sidewalks for pedestrians in York City. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including consultants and contractors, to oversee the construction of pedestrian ramps and sidewalks, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mark-outs with the Department of Design and Construction (DDC), consultants, and contractors for pedestrian ramp construction.
  • Work closely with consultant engineers and inspectors to resolve daily issues related to sidewalk and pedestrian ramp construction.
  • Attend progress meetings to evaluate and report on the status of contracts.
  • Address outstanding issues that need resolution with DDC.
  • Inform DDC about DOT's priorities for sidewalk and pedestrian ramp construction.
  • Prepare reports for the Executive Director and Chief Engineer regarding contracts.
  • Participate in construction site meetings.
  • Perform related work as assigned.
  • Ensure pedestrian ramp upgrades are performed in accordance with required stipulations.
  • Resolve issues found on site with direction from Assistant Civil Engineers and Civil Engineers.
  • Mark out locations for construction.
  • Evaluate and assess pedestrian ramps after construction.
  • Create field reports for any issues that require immediate attention.
  • Assist with the review of designs, plans, and contract specifications/scopes.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college.

Nice-to-haves

  • A driver's license valid in the state of York.
