About the position

The Assistant Project Manager/Project Engineer at SJ Hamill Construction is responsible for managing construction operations, engineering, and business functions for single or multiple projects. This role focuses on ensuring project profitability, compliance with contracts, and maintaining quality standards while providing a safe working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Project Management Team to ensure successful completion and profitability of projects.
  • Manage contract administration to meet all legal requirements including schedule, document control, and change orders.
  • Oversee project administration including cost management, quality control, recordkeeping, payroll, and purchasing.
  • Manage financial aspects of the project including pay estimates, accounts receivable, and cost reporting.
  • Ensure all work meets quality standards and complies with contract and permit requirements.
  • Provide a safe working environment and ensure compliance with safety policies.
  • Maximize company equipment and resources, ensuring proper maintenance and operation.
  • Develop and maintain good business relations with owners, customers, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Perform all other duties inherent to this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related degree.
  • 3 to 8 years of experience in Marine, Heavy Civil, and/or Industrial construction.
  • Advanced knowledge of various related construction disciplines.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize, plan, and schedule complex construction operations.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to make engineering and business decisions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of computer-aided drafting (CAD) programs.
  • Ability to navigate and operate computers and tablets.
  • Availability to work weekends and night shifts as needed.
