About the position

The Assistant Project Manager at Florida Rural Legal Services, Inc. plays a crucial role in supporting the coordination of the LSC 2022 Disaster Supplemental Appropriation Project. This position is focused on implementing project plans and coordinating resources to ensure effective disaster response efforts for Hurricane Ian survivors. The role involves providing no-cost legal community outreach and comprehensive legal services to low-income individuals affected by the disaster, addressing various legal issues such as foreclosures, bankruptcies, and landlord/tenant disputes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent administrative support for the activities, meetings, travel, records, and communications of the Project Manager.
  • Assist with scheduling staff meetings, events, and partnership meetings.
  • Meet multiple deadlines and manage several tasks concurrently.
  • Draft letters, email responses, memos, agendas, and other materials on behalf of the Project Manager.
  • Support the Disaster Recovery project with administrative tasks and scheduling, ensuring compliance with funding source requirements.
  • Prepare affidavits, legal correspondence, and other documents for the Project Manager and the Disaster Recovery Legal Services Unit.
  • Organize and maintain documents in a filing system.
  • Meet with clients, attorneys, and other professionals to discuss case details.
  • File pleadings with the court clerk.
  • Help prepare for trial by organizing exhibits and assisting with other tasks as needed.
  • Prepare briefs, wills, contracts, real estate closing statements, pleadings, appeals, and other legal documents.
  • Direct and coordinate law office activity, including delivery of subpoenas.

Requirements

  • Paralegal degree or certification preferred or three years or more work experience as a project assistant or paralegal.
  • Knowledge of the legal system and commitment to the mission of FRLS.
  • Ability to forge positive relationships with prospects and colleagues.
  • Good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Creativity and ability to maximize the use of existing resources.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Case Management System.
  • Familiarity with electronic document tracking and remote communications systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Skills to build collaborative relationships between staff and the community served by FRLS.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure situations with deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Spanish or Creole is a plus.
