About the position

The Assistant Project Manager role at the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) involves supporting the planning, design, and construction management of critical infrastructure projects within the Special Programs/In-City Water Systems Capital Program. The position is focused on ensuring the integrity and quality of the water supply system through effective project supervision and coordination under the guidance of an Accountable Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervising projects related to tunnels, shafts, reservoirs, dams, pumping stations, and other infrastructure.
  • Support planning, coordination, and implementation of design and construction projects in the NYC area.
  • Monitor permit requirements and assist in resolving project issues.
  • Conduct field condition surveys and prepare accurate reports on physical observations.
  • Review contract documents, codes, and regulations to identify deficiencies against project requirements.
  • Participate in field investigations to develop alternative approaches and solutions to meet project objectives.
  • Attend required environmental compliance and safety training classes.

Requirements

  • A Baccalaureate degree in environmental, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering from an accredited college.
  • Experience in project management principles and practices.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle for site visits and inspections.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
