About the position

The Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA) is seeking a service-oriented Assistant Property Manager to join our high-performing management team in Austin. This position assists with the management of assigned affordable housing properties, performing a variety of tasks such as inspecting and showing apartments, conducting property inspections, handling leasing and continued occupancy functions, and collecting rent. The Assistant Property Manager is expected to provide prompt, efficient, and courteous responses to resident requests, complete administrative tasks for timely lease renewals, accurately calculate residents' household income for rent payments, and support the Property Manager in maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations, including Project-Based Rental Assistance (PBRA) and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide prompt, efficient, and courteous responses to resident requests.
  • Complete administrative tasks to ensure timely lease renewals for current residents.
  • Accurately calculate residents' household income to determine appropriate rent payments.
  • Support the Property Manager in maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations, including PBRA and LIHTC program requirements.
  • Collect rent, process lease renewals, and maintain organized electronic resident files.

Requirements

  • High school education or G.E.D. and one-year related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Google platform.
  • Housing Management certification within one year of hire (training provided).

Nice-to-haves

  • Compassionate and professional customer service skills, especially when working with diverse populations, including individuals with disabilities and those experiencing homelessness.
  • Some college hours in business, public administration, or social sciences from an accredited community college or university; twelve months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in property management.
  • Experience working with YARDI property management software and bilingual in Spanish, Arabic or Vietnamese or Sign Language.
