About the position

The Assistant Publicist at HarperCollins Publishers will support senior team members in executing high-profile book launch campaigns while also managing their own publicity projects. This role is integral to the William Morrow Group, which encompasses various imprints and publishes a diverse range of titles. The position is based in New York City with a hybrid work schedule, allowing for both in-office and remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Assists senior team members with various aspects of high-profile book launch campaigns.
  • Manages all aspects of publicity campaigns for own projects each season.
  • Drafts press releases and pitches, reaches out to targeted press, organizes feedback, helps coordinate interview logistics, tracks media coverage.
  • Generates media contact lists and contributes to maintaining a shared database.
  • Schedules book tour logistics and works with travel agency to coordinate author travel itineraries.
  • Maintains campaign-specific budgets.
  • Attends select book signings, escorts authors to media interviews, and helps staff special events.
  • Communicates detailed campaign updates directly to senior publicity staff, editors, marketers, sales team, agents, and authors.
  • Researches new media and creative promo opportunities, including influencers across Instagram, TikTok, and other social platforms.
  • Responds to outside inquiries, including review copy requests and general information questions.
  • Coordinates mailings of books, galleys, and other materials.

Requirements

  • Prior internship experience in publishing and/or public relations is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently while contributing to department goals.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to handle information confidentially.
  • Comfortable presenting in front of large groups.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.
