About the position

The Assistant Purchasing Agent at KB Home is responsible for managing day-to-day purchasing tasks at the community level. This includes bidding, contracting, and maintaining contracts to ensure accurate and timely processing of job starts and changes. The role requires effective communication with internal and external personnel to uphold standards and resolve concerns, while also supporting the VP of Purchasing in contract reviews and approvals.

Responsibilities

  • Manage time effectively to meet departmental goals.
  • Create and set up new communities for bidding in the Buzzsaw Vendor Database.
  • Send out bid invites to interested vendors and create specifications and scopes of work.
  • Research and respond to questions from bidders via email and phone calls.
  • Negotiate contracts with management directives and coordinate with NAPA for execution.
  • Maintain active and closed community contracts and respond to inquiries from the operations team and subcontractors.
  • Prepare contract change requests for review and approval by the VP of Purchasing and VP of Finance.
  • Coordinate scheduling of model frame-walks and field meetings with Superintendents, Architects, and Subcontractors.
  • Oversee the KBTPO process and train trades on its navigation.
  • Coordinate with trade partners on payment status, invoice aging, lien releases, and insurance issues.
  • Ensure all documents on the Vendor Database Buzzsaw are accurate and up-to-date.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a purchasing-related position (3 years if in the same industry, 5 years if in a different industry).
  • Residential construction knowledge or experience is preferred.
  • Experience in residential purchasing and contracting is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of general office organization, contract administration, or administrative assistance experience.
  • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook; AS/400 experience preferred.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Degree in Accounting, Business, or Construction Management is helpful but not necessary.
