About the position

As an Assistant Purchasing Manager at Levy, you will play a crucial role in directing the activities of associates during specific shifts, ensuring that all assigned job expectations are met while adhering to company policies and procedures. This position is integral to maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of our purchasing operations, which are vital to our success in the Food, Beverage, and Retail industry. You will be responsible for overseeing the receipt, unloading, movement, and loading of merchandise, ensuring that all processes are executed smoothly and accurately. In this role, you will maintain the Purchasing system, with a preference for candidates who have experience with Birchstreet. You will verify the correct counts of items received, noting any discrepancies or damages, and ensure that items are issued and delivered to the proper destinations, obtaining necessary signatures to document these transactions. Proper storage of inventory merchandise is essential to avoid spills or spoilage, and you will be responsible for rotating stock according to schedule to maintain freshness and quality. Safety is a top priority, and you will maintain your work area in a safe and proper manner, reporting any unsafe or hazardous conditions immediately. Additionally, you will manage and maintain stock control, planning for future needs, adjusting par levels, processing stock orders, controlling dead stock, and maintaining delivery schedules. The use of a FIFO (First In, First Out) system is critical to minimizing waste, and you will operate equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, or light utility carts as necessary, with job training provided. This position may also involve performing other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the team and the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the activities of associates during a specific shift.
  • Ensure appropriate functions, duties, and procedures as directed by Warehouse Management.
  • Receive, unload, move, and load merchandise.
  • Maintain the Purchasing system (Birchstreet experience preferred).
  • Verify correct counts of items received and note discrepancies or damages.
  • Issue and deliver items to the proper destination and obtain signatures to document delivery and receipt.
  • Maintain proper storage of inventory merchandise to avoid spills or spoilage, rotating stock according to schedule.
  • Maintain work area in a safe and proper manner, reporting any unsafe and hazardous conditions.
  • Manage and maintain stock control, including planning future needs and adjusting par levels, processing stock orders, controlling dead stock, and maintaining delivery schedules.
  • Ensure FIFO system is used to minimize waste.
  • Operate forklift or pallet jack or light utility cart when necessary.

Requirements

  • Lifts and transports up to 75lbs.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time.
  • Basic English writing, reading, and math skills.
  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience.
