About the position

The Assistant Purchasing Manager at Wintrust Arena/McCormick Place is responsible for overseeing the ordering, receiving, and inventory management of food and supplies. This role ensures compliance with food safety standards and HACCP controls, while also supporting departmental needs through effective sourcing and pricing. The position involves daily management of the inventory system and coordination of workforce scheduling within the department.

Responsibilities

• Understand and effectively communicate OVG 360 policies and procedures.
• Communicate with all internal teams to lead the Concessions and Suites/Catering operations.
• Facilitate the purchasing, requisition, and distribution process.
• Purchase food, beverage, and supplies based on the event schedule.
• Delegate tasks to warehouse lead, warehouse staff, and linen/uniform room staff.
• Oversee sanitation and safety of the warehouse.
• Communicate vendor performance and service to the Director of Catering/AGM.
• Make informed and cost-effective decisions regarding product, receiving, storage, and distribution.
• Manage monthly inventory.
• Utilize progressive discipline of staff when necessary.
• Perform other warehouse duties as needed.

Requirements

• 5 years purchasing and supervisory experience in arena or similar business.
• Strong knowledge of food and beverages and current trends.
• Extensive knowledge of Quest or similar food service program.
• Excellent organizational skills with proven ability to prioritize effectively.
• Strong knowledge of PC software, including proficiency in Excel and Word and using email.
• Proven abilities to lead and develop staff.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule.
• Experience working with union employees and understanding Collective Bargaining Agreement preferred.
• ServSafe and TIPS/BASSET certified.
