About the position

The Assistant Quality Control Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring that all quality control processes are adhered to within the food manufacturing facility located in the Bartlett area of Chicago, IL. This position involves overseeing the scheduling of Quality Control (QC) Technicians and developing comprehensive Food Safety and Quality programs that align with Corporate Policies and Procedures, as well as USDA and FDA regulations. The Assistant Quality Control Manager will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and customer requirements related to the processing and packaging of products produced at the facility, as well as the handling of incoming ingredients. In this role, the Assistant Quality Control Manager will conduct audits to ensure compliance with customer requirements and regulatory standards. This includes monitoring the pest control program and implementing corrective actions as necessary. The position also involves participating in the investigation and resolution of customer complaints and managing product rejections. The Assistant Quality Control Manager will oversee lab analyses, evaluate results, and maintain updated documentation regarding raw material suppliers, including preparing specifications and managing non-conformities. Additionally, the Assistant Quality Control Manager will collaborate with the Quality Systems Manager (QSM) to update finished product specifications, conduct pre-shipment reviews, and manage hold and release processes. The role requires providing training to both the QC team and production team, conducting monthly reviews of quality issues, and managing shelf life trials and industrial trials. The Assistant Quality Control Manager will also be responsible for addressing daily production issues and ensuring the effectiveness of the pest control management program.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee scheduling of QC Technicians and manage the QC team.
  • Develop and implement Food Safety and Quality programs in compliance with Corporate Policies, USDA, FDA, and GMPs.
  • Conduct audits to ensure compliance with customer requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor pest control programs and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Participate in the investigation and resolution of customer complaints and product rejections.
  • Manage lab analyses and evaluate results, trending finished product outcomes.
  • Maintain updated documentation regarding raw material suppliers and prepare specifications.
  • Manage non-conformities with raw materials and agree on corrective actions with suppliers.
  • Collaborate with QSM to update finished product specifications.
  • Conduct pre-shipment reviews and manage hold and release processes.
  • Provide training to QC and production teams on quality control processes.
  • Conduct monthly reviews of quality issues and manage RFT (Right First Time) metrics.
  • Manage shelf life trials and industrial trials, addressing daily production issues.

Requirements

  • Degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related science.
  • Minimum 5 years of quality control experience in food manufacturing.
  • HACCP Certified.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong multi-tasking and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Mathematical aptitude with analytical proficiency.
