About the position

The Assistant Registrar at John Ball Zoo plays a crucial role in maintaining the quality and content of all animal records, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and effective management of the zoo's animal care. This position involves assisting in the logistics of animal transactions, training staff in record-keeping, and providing necessary data for various accreditation and inspection processes.

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintaining the quality and content of all animal records.
• Ensure records are consistent with accreditation standards and compliance requirements.
• Help in the logistics and preparation of paperwork for animal acquisition and disposition.
• Compile, generate, and distribute institutional data related to animals in the zoo's care.
• Assist in training staff in animal record keeping and data standards.
• Confirm adherence to daily reporting policies and procedures.
• Provide data necessary for AZA studbooks, AZA accreditation, USDA inspections, and Species Survival Plan requests.

Requirements

• College degree in natural science, biology, zoology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of basic collection records management standards and practices.
• Basic understanding of wildlife laws and regulations for exhibition, breeding, and transport.
• Strong attention to detail and basic computer literacy.
• Ability to prioritize and show flexibility with daily responsibilities with minimal guidance.
