About the position

The Assistant Resident Engineer at Arcadis U.S. Inc. plays a crucial role in overseeing construction projects, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and managing contractor performance. This position involves technical review of construction plans, documentation processing, and acting as a liaison between contractors and design staff. The Assistant Resident Engineer will also supervise staff, lead meetings, and contribute to the overall success of municipal contracts in New York City.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day construction oversight on major municipal contracts.
  • Provide technical review of construction plans and specifications for constructability and practicality.
  • Act as a liaison to design staff to respond to Contractors' RFIs and review shop drawings.
  • Assist the Construction Manager (CM) and/or Resident Engineer (RE) in managing office staff responsible for record keeping and drafting reports.
  • Manage overall site safety and compliance with permit conditions.
  • Monitor Contractor performance, schedule, and responsiveness to maintain project goals.
  • Review, prepare, and process the Contractor payment process and recommend adjustments as necessary.
  • Assist in managing the inspection staff and delivery of daily inspector reports.
  • Lead meetings and prepare meeting minutes.
  • Use effective communication skills to lead project, safety, scheduling, and contract administration meetings.

Requirements

  • Prior experience as an Office Engineer or Assistant Resident Engineer in NYC.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing a safe and healthful workplace.
  • Proficiency with Primavera and/or MS Project and the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to manage ARCADIS personnel and remain responsive to Corporate requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5-10 years' experience with at least 5 years of Assistant Resident Engineering or office engineering experience preferably for NYCDEP or NYCDDC.
  • Professional Engineer - New York (active) preferred.
  • Interest and ability to network, support proposals, and contribute to firm growth in the NYC construction market.
