About the position

The Assistant Shipping Supervisor at The Jel Sert Company plays a crucial role in coordinating the shipping and receiving operations within the distribution and warehouse department. This position involves overseeing a team of approximately ten employees, ensuring that shipping, receiving, storage, and distribution tasks are performed efficiently and according to established procedures. The role emphasizes productivity, quality, and safety, while also requiring effective communication and problem-solving skills to address any operational challenges that arise.

Responsibilities

  • Issue job assignments to ensure orders are picked and loaded according to schedule
  • Evaluate and determine course of action on loading, receiving, and storage problems
  • Oversee day-to-day shuttling, deliveries, and departmental processes according to procedures
  • Determine acceptance/rejection of goods received via inspection when required
  • Review incoming deliveries paperwork for both accuracy and potential problems
  • Work with department supervisor in developing solutions
  • Complete required paperwork
  • Monitor department safety and procedures ensuring all employees are trained accordingly
  • Address performance and personnel issues alongside the department supervisor
  • Communicate with production departments as needed
  • Post weekly overtime lists for all shifts
  • Maintain files, records, and other miscellaneous paperwork
  • Record keeping of Dietary Supplements according to SQF requirements
  • Utilize WMS system to adjust inventory, conducting counts and adjusting inventory according to findings

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of inventory/distribution experience within a fast-paced warehouse or distribution environment
  • Knowledge of the transportation industry and warehouse operations and how it affects the company
  • Strong leadership, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in a lead role or supervisor preferred
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to handle confrontational situations professionally
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is required
  • Basic computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Excel and warehousing systems)

Nice-to-haves

  • WMS and/or Manufacturing QAD experience
  • Forklift experience preferred
