About the position

Join our school programs in San Lorenzo and Fremont as an Assistant Teacher, guiding students through their curriculum. This role requires an active CA teaching credential and involves teaching classes, supporting the teacher, and shaping the educational experience directly, making a lasting impact. As an Assistant Teacher you will partner with our Special Education Teachers at Harvey Green Elementary School (Fremont), Washington Manor Middle School (San Lorenzo), or Arroyo High School (San Lorenzo) to design and implement instruction that supports the individualized learning of students through small groups and specific content delivery. As an Assistant Teacher, you'll provide a consistent structure for the classroom that ensures that the academic, social, and emotional needs of each student are met within the guidelines of the Individualized Educational Program (IEP) and the Treatment Plan. You'll also have the opportunity to enroll in an embedded Special Education Credential program under substantial Seneca scholarship.

Responsibilities

  • Design unit and lesson plans that provide an individualized academic program for students
  • Deliver instruction to small groups of students in classrooms staffed with Special Education Teachers, School Therapists, and Classroom Counselors
  • Support students individually in specific content or skill tutoring
  • Conduct assessments to support progress monitoring, instructional design, grouping, and lesson planning
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team in using behavioral, clinical, therapeutic, and management techniques
  • Substitute for the Special Education Teacher periodically
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents/guardians
  • Intervene with students' behavioral program, including physical management

Requirements

  • Active CA Special Education or Emergency Substitute Teaching Credential required
  • Bachelor's degree OR Associate degree or equivalent + 1 year of applicable experience OR High School Diploma/GED + 2 years of applicable experience
  • Applicable experience can include paid or unpaid experience working with youth or families, working in a classroom setting, working in a mental health setting, providing academic support to youth, or providing crisis support to youth
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without any restrictions
  • TB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and any other state/federal licensing or certification requirements
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and insurability through Seneca Family of Agencies' insurance policy
  • Proof of up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination

  • Experience supporting youth with emotional or behavioral challenges
  • School-based or classroom-facing experience
  • Interest in enrolling in Seneca's embedded online special education credential program funded by Seneca
