The Assistant Special Event Manager plays a crucial role in the planning and execution of meetings and special events within the organization. This position assists in implementing departmental strategies and ensures a seamless transition from sales to operations and back to sales when appropriate. The individual in this role will lead a team to meet and exceed daily and weekly goals, which include sales targets, attendance figures, guest satisfaction metrics, and safety standards. The Assistant Special Event Manager is responsible for creating an atmosphere that meets or exceeds guest expectations and for setting a positive example in guest relations. In addition to managing event operations, the Assistant Special Event Manager will conduct daily walk-throughs of the banquet floor to promote client satisfaction and uphold quality standards. They will also be involved in researching and analyzing new products, pricing, and services offered by competitors to ensure the property remains competitive. The role requires the individual to learn, operate, and train employees on various software systems used in event management, including ticketing, retail, inventory, and space usage. The Assistant Special Event Manager will assist in developing working relationships with outside vendors, establishing prices and service agreements to enhance the event experience, and creating opportunities to upsell during event planning. They will also manage department controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals and oversee merchandise inventory to enhance displays and increase sales. This position involves significant interaction with guests to obtain feedback on product quality and service levels, responding to and handling guest complaints, and empowering employees to provide excellent customer service. Additionally, the Assistant Special Event Manager will be involved in human resources activities, including interviewing, selecting, and training employees, appraising productivity, and conducting annual performance appraisals with direct reports.
