About the position

The Champaign County State's Attorney's Office is seeking an experienced attorney licensed in the State of Illinois for an Assistant State's Attorney position. Applicants must be currently licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois. Previous professional experience in prosecution, litigation, criminal law, social services or related fields is required, with a minimum of 5 years of post-law school practice strongly preferred. A successful applicant must be skilled in trial advocacy, communication, organization and technology, demonstrate good judgement and the ability to make decisions, and be willing to represent the office in court and with the public.

Responsibilities

  • Exercise primary responsibility for the preparation of jury and bench trials.
  • Engage in motion practice and plea negotiations in felony criminal cases of normal to advanced complexity.
  • Work cooperatively with victim advocates and law enforcement in criminal prosecutions.
  • Other duties as assigned by the State's Attorney.

Requirements

  • Currently licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois.
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-law school practice strongly preferred.
