About the position

The Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications plays a crucial role in managing and overseeing all aspects of athletic communications and media relations for the University's Division I Intercollegiate Athletic Program. This position ensures compliance with NCAA regulations while promoting the athletic program through effective communication strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer all athletic communications and media relations for the Division I Intercollegiate Athletic Program.
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA regulations in all communications and media relations activities.
  • Manage the dissemination of information to the media and public regarding athletic events and programs.
  • Coordinate press releases, media guides, and other promotional materials for the athletic department.
  • Serve as the primary contact for media inquiries and facilitate interviews with coaches and athletes.
  • Utilize statistical programs such as Genius Sports-LiveStats and StatCrew for accurate reporting of athletic statistics.
  • Maintain a strong relationship with the working press and media outlets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience in sports information, athletic administration, journalism, or public relations required.
  • Thorough knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Genius Sports-LiveStats and StatCrew statistical programs is essential.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Premier.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience at the Division I level preferred.
  • Familiarity with the working press.
