About the position

The Assistant Manager at J.Jill plays a crucial role in supporting the Store Manager to maximize store potential, achieve sales goals, and ensure profitability. This position involves hiring, coaching, and developing associates to enhance their selling and styling capabilities. The Assistant Manager also takes charge in the absence of the Store Manager, ensuring that corporate policies are followed and that visual merchandising and operational standards are maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in achieving individual and store sales and productivity performance goals.
  • Review store goals and results, implementing actionable plans to improve performance as necessary.
  • Forecast business and communicate appropriate goals to associates to drive results and hold teams accountable.
  • Utilize store reports and tools to coach and communicate goals and priorities to associates.
  • Build customer loyalty by leading associates to create genuine connections with customers and participate in outreach opportunities.
  • Resolve merchandise and customer service issues to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Promote a positive and energetic store atmosphere of teamwork and individual contribution.
  • Act as a role model for selling culture and help customers build their wardrobes.
  • Assist in identifying and recruiting talent to support J.Jill culture and brand goals.
  • Conduct ongoing training and development of associates on selling culture and techniques.
  • Assist with evaluating associate performance and developing their skills through feedback and assignments.
  • Assist with planning and executing floor sets and maintaining visual standards.
  • Develop weekly store schedules to maximize coverage during peak selling times.
  • Participate in all operational areas including marketing, product replenishment, and store cleanliness.
  • Oversee inventory processes to protect company assets and reduce shrinkage.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of Women's Specialty Retail experience required.
  • 1+ years in a Store Management position preferred.
  • Point of Sale and general office software technical experience.
  • Experience in relevant Human Resource processes.
  • Strong leadership qualities, training, and team building skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a statistical track record in sales.
  • Experience in recruiting and retaining a talented sales and support team.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Strong style, merchandising, and wardrobing skills.
